Sports Management Worldwide welcomes James “AJ” Mason as an Agent Advisor. AJ graduated from the SMWW Athlete Management Course in June 2020 and was mentored by NBA agent Joel Corry and NFL Agent, Dr. Lynn Lashbrook; satisfying all the core requirements to become an Agent Advisor under their guidance. His passion has always been sports and he has a deep background that includes being a former athlete all the way up through the collegiate level and working in the sports media field. AJ received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from West Virginia Wesleyan in 2008 on a four-year NCAA Division II athletic scholarship for basketball. In 2014, he continued his education, receiving a Master of Science Degree in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania. While possessing current work experience in the IT field, AJ brings over a decade of experience as a full-time sports journalist for the Washington Post, The Gazette, and the Maryland Independent Newspapers. During that time, he covered a wide variety of sporting events at the professional, amateur, collegiate, and high school levels, developing strong relationships with numerous athletes and coaches. AJ brings knowledge and a strong understanding of agent regulations & player association legalities, contract negotiation, endorsements, sponsorships, ethics, collective bargaining agreements, draft preparation, marketing, and recruiting. AJ focuses on his client's wealth, personal life, career, and post-career challenges with the goal to simplify and enhance their lives. By serving as his client's primary contact for everything from financial advisory assistance to addressing their lifestyle needs, he works closely with the SMWW Team on and off the field, so his clients can focus on their career. AJ has the approach of treating his clients like family. He wants the best for them, and his goal is to ensure that every decision made is in the best interest of his clients. AJ takes the most pride in being able to personally identify with his client’s love for sports, which is why he is committed to ensuring they achieve their dreams of playing professional sports.
